In 1954 I drove to Beaumont, Texas, from up in Louisiana, very weak, tubercular although I did not know it, and saw the full three hour plus version of A STAR IS BORN. I thought hers was the most powerful performance I had ever seen and I am not at all sure I have seen a more powerful one since then. How many other people are alive who saw the movie in 1954 before Warners butchered it?
